Queer Slow Dance

The Rainbow Chorus of Waterloo Wellington invites you to join us at Queer Slow Dance! Come on out and re-live your favourite part of high school dances with a night full of slow songs (and a few fast ones thrown in for fun) and a crowd of your loveliest LGBTQ+ friends and special someones to share them with.

Looking for an opportunity to pull out that poofy prom dress and/or snazzy pale blue suit with the ruffle shirt? Well you just found that opportunity! Dressing up is not required but is loads of fun, so we suggest you go all out.

The fantastic DJ M'Damn D will serenade us all night long with sets of slow songs and some of your favourite dance hits. So find a dance buddy, figure out where your hands go, then spin slowly in a circle for a few minutes, then repeat. Our very friendly designated dancers will be on hand encouraging all you wallflowers onto the dance floor.

The Guelph Queer Slow Dance is a consent positive space. We encourage you to make new friends by asking people to dance, and remind you to respect the people around you. If someone says yes, then you have approximately three and half minutes to get to know each other. If someone turns you down or wants to end the dance early, that’s cool too. You always have the option to say no.

This event is a fundraiser to help members of the Rainbow Chorus participate in a mass choir performance at the Lincoln Center in New York City in June 2017. Rainbow Chorus will join Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) and Dr. Timothy Selig, Artistic Director of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus to perform a special concert written just for this event.

The concert, Tyler’s Suite was written and arranged to tell the story of Tyler Clementi, a college student who took his own life after being bullied because of sexual orientation. The show will be an incredible opportunity for the participating choirs and the audience to celebrate the wonderful young man who loved music and raise awareness of discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals.

Rainbow Chorus of Waterloo Wellington is a non-auditioned community choir for LGBTQ+ folks and allies. We meet every Wednesday night in Guelph to join together in song and build a safe space for our members to be their true selves.

Our beautiful venue is the Art Gallery of Guelph. Parking is available, and is easily accessible by Bus.
