Get REAL was founded by four students at Western University, in 2011. After countless positive experiences speaking to first year students about using language like 'fag' and 'That's so Gay,' the idea was suggested to go back to our old high schools and speak about our experiences.
Since then we've spoken to thousands of students from Grades 4-12 across Canada and the US, with 20 university campus teams stretching from coast to coast. Our workshops are effective because they are peer-to-peer. Our speakers are typically 18-24 and share real life stories from both straight and LGTBQ perspectives. We use humor and honesty to convey our simple message that is love is love and uniqueness is great.
Get REAL is a movement - it is one generation speaking to another about things we wish our peers had shared with us when we were growing up. If you'd like to start or join a team on your campus, have us work in your high school positive space group,or just help out in some way, give us a shout!
